Croatian composer, pianist and writer Dubravko Detoni (Križevci, 1937) received his music education in Zagreb (Stjepan Šulek, Svetislav Stančić), Siena (Guido Agosti), Warsaw (Witold Lutoslawski, Grazyna Bacewicz), Darmstadt (Karlheinz Stockhausen, György Ligeti) and in Paris (John Cage). He has written 130 works of orchestral (Transformations, Figures and Surfaces, Symphony, 47 Questions, The Wonderful Monster of Time, Silent Pauses, dolce furioso, etc.), concert (numerous concertos for piano and other instruments), chamber (Forgotten Musics, Group Gymnastics, Euphonia, Silber–Suite, White Music, Black Music, A Waltz, Follow me, Monos cycles, with numbers, musical graphics, etc.), solo (especially piano), vocal (Restless About the Morning, Love of C Major, Ten Intervals, A Happening, etc.) and electronic music (A Fairy Tale, Chameleon, Kitsch Variations, Harmonies, A Secret, Phonomorphia cycle and so on) as well as nine books of poetry and essays. He is the founder and artistic director of ACEZANTEZ, a new sound ensemble, with which he has toured most of the European countries, parts of America and Asia (since 1970). He has received numerous awards and honours in Croatia and abroad (Vladimir Nazor, Josip [tolcer Slavenski, Porin, Matica hrvatska Awards, the annual award of the Yugoslav Radio and Television for best composition, Grand Prix of the 6th Paris Youth Biennale, UNESCO’s International Rostrum of Composers, Premio Italia, Bedrich Smetana, etc.).
