Driven by a wish to bring world trends in performing to the Croatian milieu, Krunoslav Babić founded the XL Tuba Quartet in 2002 - the first chamber ensemble of its kind in the region. Since the tuba is considered primarily an orchestral instrument, the wish of the new ensemble was to show that even this instrument can be used in chamber music performance as well as solo. The vast repertoire of the ensemble ranges from works by ancient masters (Palestrina, Bach, Handel, etc.), in the classical and romantic periods, all the way to contemporary composers and jazz. Along with performing original scores, such ensembles also perform big hits arranged from baroque and classical music.
This album brings six compositions dedicated to XL Tuba Quartet Vanja Lisjak, Josip Magdić, Alfi Kabiljo, Davor Bobić, Dubravko Detoni i Mladen Tarbuk.
