Bradić, Srećko: Miserere mei, Deus, for mixed choir

In 2016, during his concert season as composer-in-residence at Croatian Radiotelevision, Srećko Bradić composed Miserere mei, Deus for mixed choir. On May 24, 2016, the HRT Choir led by Nils Schweckendiek premiered the piece at the Mimara Museum in Zagreb.

On this occasion, Bradić’s creative interest in textual templates of sacral nature was reflected in the Psalm 50 (51) through the skilful shaping of an introspective musical content, which he compared to a confession. The composer’s admiration for the text resulted in a touching and emotional dedication to his mother; as it bravely moves through sixteen sections, it presents performers with a number of interpretive challenges, while also conveying a masterfully woven formal unity. Bradić created an unswerving work of powerful contours by subtly building an atmosphere that strongly exudes complexity and tension, but also a desire for purity and the sublime.
