Nježić, Vjekoslav: Jacob’s Dream for saxophone quartet and electronics

 

Jacob’s Dream for saxophone quartet and electronics, inspired by a scene from the Book of Genesis, is one of the works in which Nježić expresses his fascination with viewing time as a state rather than its fluidity. Recognizing that listening is an experience that is intertwined with jumps in the listener’s consciousness, and knowing that electronic music is only limited by imagination today, Nježić incorporates electronics as another layer of musical thought that follows ideas from different sources, reinforcing excellent compositional foundations in sound and form. The composition was commissioned by the 23rd Music Biennale Zagreb. The Zagreb Saxophone Quartet first performed it on April 18, 2005, at the Mimara Museum, after which they performed it multiple times in Croatia and abroad. This sheet music edition is a continuation of a series of three Nježić’s pieces (solo, duo and orchestra with tape) that are already available in the Ars Croatica edition.
