Đurović, Frano: Quartet for the End of Working Time, for saxophone quartet

According to the composer, the Quartet for the End of Working Time was given its title because it was composed within a short timeframe. Although the composition appears to have a typical three-movement structure, the individual movements showcase individuality in terms of character, sound material treatment, and approach to thematic fragments arising from the character shaping of, at times, almost minimalistic and varied patterns. The work is dedicated to the Papandopulo Quartet, which premiered the first movement on October 7, 2009 at the New Music Days in Split, while the first integral performance of the work was held on November 5, 2010, the year the work was completed, at the 47th Music Festival in Opatija. Their interpretation is also included on Đurović’s first author album (Cantus, 2012). This is the sixth in a series of works from the author’s oeuvre to be released in Cantus’ music edition Ars Croatica.
