The recordings presented on this album document a research process, a constantly evolving train of thought that attempts to grasp the uncertain and fluctuating nature of improvised expression. The conceptual framework is made up of research into the new possibilities of sound production, the practice of free improvised music, and the ways in which interhuman relations influence the production of spontaneous modes of musical expression. Improvisation as a creative social practice offers a whole spectrum of possibilities; a starting point for exploration that pushes us beyond the bounds of our perceived limitations of action and thought. Both the improvisor and the listener are asked to set aside their preconceived aesthetic notions and institutionalized forms of knowledge in an attempt to reach an ephemeral state of being; an almost ritualistic connection to the subconscious elements that facilitate improvised expression. In this sense, improvisation reveals an openness towards otherness, a movement of externalization and a perpetual self-transcendence. Through this process, we are in constant communication with ourselves, the tradition of our ancestors, and the advancements of our contemporaries. The sounds that are produced as a result of these interactions fulfill a particular need that transcends the purely musical; the sense of occasion and its ritualistic function are an attempt to create a microcosm of a highly localized form of folk music.
