Boris Papandopulo, composer, conductor and pianist (Honnef am Rhein, 1906 - Zagreb, 1991), one of the most significant Croatian composers, was born into a family of musicians who fostered artistic skills inspired by his grandmother,
the great Croatian actress Marija Ružička de Strozzi, which were further developed by his mother, singer Maja Papandopulo/Pečić de Strozzi and uncle, director and actor Titto de Strozzi. Papandopulo studied composition at
the Academy of Music in Zagreb in the class of Blagoje Bersa (graduated in 1929) as well as conducting with Dirk Fock at the New Viennese Conservatoire (1925-1928).
