String Quartet No. 1 by Ivo Maček is a large four-movement piece that is particularly challenging to the editor. Considering its harmonic as well as polyphonic complexity, special attention has been paid to the correction of accidentals in questionable places as well as to their consistency. The slur and bow markings are consistent while the markings for dynamics and agogics have been supplemented throughout the composition. Maček’ s musical expression is a testament not only to his great talent and musicality, but also to the masterful approach in the treatment of string instruments.
