Études written for the competition are a continuation of the last yearís cycle of six piano études, Études - Variations on a Well-Known Theme. The composer, knowing that this form is primarily intended for perfecting the playing technique, that is mastering certain technical problems, has skillfully used the song Frere Jacques in the first cycle, and Au Clair de la Lune in this one, making the practice easier and more interesting. Gradating the elements of the violin technique, such as double stops, spiccato, ricochet, pizz. with left hand and others, which range from the simplest ones in the first to the very complex ones in the fifth étude, the author - using his fertile imagination - merges all this into a timeless children’s song.
