For fifty years Prerad Detiček (Zagreb, b. 1931) has been present on the Croatian music stage as an eminent horn soloist, chamber and orchestra musician as well as a successful teacher and organizer. ...
This CD is dedicated to anthological miniatures for horn and accompanying instruments (organ, piano and violin) written by seven eminent Croatian composers whose opuses share a common feature – a light folk echo wrapped in absolute tonal apparel and placed in masterly done formal surroundings. The feature which most prominently stands out in the opus of Boris Papandopulo (1906-1991) is his virtuoso handling of traditional patterns and fresh coloring, while in the opus of Anđelko Klobučar (b. 1931), more than with others, it is his tendency towards distinctiveness of sound systems whose blending points to a somewhat hidden but undeniable openness towards modernity; in the opus of Miroslav Miletić (b. 1925) it is witty musicality strengthened with inborn sense for harmonious form; in the opus of Rudolf Matz (1901-1988) it is his seldomly calculated frugality of expression; in the opus of Bruno Bjelinski (1909-1992) it is his deep-rooted belongingness to general Mediterranean buoyancy; in the opus of Fran Lhotka (1883-1962) it is his undeniable picturesqueness of tonal movements, and in the opus of Krešimir Baranović (1894-1975) it is his amazing consistence in pertinacious spinning in search for the roots of omnimusical.
